The Story
What do you get when one pair of estranged twin brothers (both named Antipholus), and one pair of estranged twin servants (both named Dromio) all wind up in the same city for the first time ever, completely ignorant of the other's existence? Add to the fun that the city has a bit of a reputation for magic? Oh did we tell you one of the Antipholus brothers is married? The theatrical chaos that ensues when all elements are thrown together are the makings of Shakespeare's take on a Roman original (seriously Shakespeare borrowed this plot from a farce by Plautus that is even older than Shakespeare) to give us The Comedy of Errors.
Our foreign Antipholus/Dromio duo are alternately astonished by how warm a welcome they receive by "strangers" to them and perplexed by the odd familiarity of it all. While the other, that once was on top of his fair city of Ephesus (the setting of this slapstick comedy) is continually met with frustration and anger. The poor Dromios both bear the brunt of the confusion as they are oft beaten for consistently obeying the wrong twin at the right time. Amidst the pandemonium we also meet Antipholus of Ephesus' wife, her sister, a seductress, a duke, a father with his own set of troubles and a few other characters that meet and greet four men with only two faces in situations that are tantamount to what must be nightmares for the twins, but serve audiences with a delightfully different outlook that can only be described as a comedy of errors! Big THANKS to our specific tour supporters
